Just got in from the LCS. This Constantine broke the record for my new "oldest" coin. I've narrowed it down to 330-335 or 336-337...but I'm not certain which one it is.

This is my oldest US copper coin, and it suffers from severe corrosion on both sides. Coins like this are why I prefer silver and gold, rather than copper. 1796 Liberty Cap Cent (S-88): (scanned-in film prints)

Thank you, Celticsoul. These London Elephant Tokens have no proven connection to America as you know, and they probably never circulated there, but they are still interesting (cool).
pepactonius, that is pretty nice S-88. Difficult to tell much about surface condition from the pictures, but the level of detail is great.

I'd gladly trade this for a pre-1834 US gold coin in similar condition (without the corrosion) -- doesn't even have be from 1796, although that would be a plus. I guess the details are VG-8?, but I suppose it would be certified with a details grade (assuming it's genuine). It's hard to say what the net grade of this coin would be -- I suppose the corrosion would knock it down a couple of grades, perhaps to AG-3?
