I believe it is called a remnant die clash. when they discover it they either replace the die or polish it off, in this case the latter, but missed part of it. I recognized it right away, but once again coop beat me to it. one can learn a lot here but I didn't realize how ignorant I really am until I viewed coop's video on doubled dies.lol

upon closer examination, that particular part of his hair shouldn't be right there. how can that be? could it be shaped that way from polishing the die? or a die chip maybe? is it possible that coop missed the diagnosis? not likely. one thing I am certain of though, it is not a leaf from the reverse.

It is from a clash from the obverse die. Not all devices transfer to the other die during a clash. Sometimes just a little and they may have missed that when they polished the die. But it is form a clash.

The clash is actually from the space between the queue and back of Jefferson's collar

It's a strong enough clash that I would consider it a keeper.

Thank you all. I sure am learning so much. this is totally a keeper. Now I need to figure out how to officially put a value on it. Now that I'mlearning what errors actually are and still a lot more to learn, I want to get my coins in a nice error book or case display. Again thank you all for your replies and for taking the time to do so.

Value is minimal because clashes happen frequently and even strong clashes are not that hard to find. it is still a valid keeper though just for the educational value of it.
