I bought 100 morgans off Craigslist about 2yrs ago for $20 per. I was in my collecting infancy and didn't check them out over a visual inspection (but what did I really know) thankfully it was a great deal and I made about a grand on it. Haven't done anything like that on Craigslist since though

Oh and I didn't take the cash. I checked them out and negotiated then when the deal was done he drove with me with the coins in his hand while his wife followed us to the bank. We locked the coins in my car and both went in. I handed him the envelope and went off on my merry way

ebay makes me more nervous from a security standpoint than Craiglist does.

I rarely buy or sell on Craiglist, but when I do, with Craiglist when I buy I use a phone that is not connected to my home address and I always do the transaction in a public place.

With ebay, I usually have the items shipped to my work. But everyone who ever has bought something from me knows exactly where I live and that I sell coins.

The other day I noticed I was shipping to someone who lives about 30 minutes away. What if he didn't like his coin and decided to return it in person? Shudder.

My brother has done dozens of C'list deals from his home. I've done one. No issues.

All very interesting stories. Times sure have changed. Growing up my mom operated a kennel and sold puppies from our home, never had a problem. In my teens I also sold horses from our property. Three years ago I had a litter of Persian kittens and used kiji to sell from my home. Now that I think of it, its pretty risky having people come to your home, when your alone. Things sure have changed over the years. I think small town people are still pretty relaxed. Hardly any friends know I collect silver, they know common circulation coins. This is a great read.

I sold a antique shotgun to a guy on craigslist.
it was a old pump action, built in the early 60's.

anyway, I met up with him in the local police dept. parking lot.

i did go in and tell the cops what I was doing, first. :)

I sell quite a bit of stuff on craiglist. Depending on how I feel about the person, I will meet them at the house where I have a detached garage and all business is done there in the garage, never inside my house. Or I will meet them in a public location like a gas station or a fast food joint. And if the person seems flaky, I will back out of the deal. Not worth getting stabbed or robbed.

Not PM, but met a guy last night and bought 5 rolls of forever stamps. Sold this morning and made $50 profit. Many deal to be had. Just so many are drive across town to make $10-$20...not worth it. Once my family wanted to go get ice cream. I said hold on...looked on CL. Found an item on the way that was a deal. Turned out the seller was a customer of mine (had a store -closing in 2 weeks) and bought the item. Made $50 or so on it. Free ice cream!

I've had good luck with Craig's List on both selling a car and renting a house .... Have not tried buying or selling coins yet, kinda scary out there when folks know you have cash or coins, I'm thinking!

The 14K includes 2 resalable wedding band rings.

Holy smokes guys... a guy was tied up and robbed at his house after someone responded to his CL ad. He untied himself and followed him outside and shot the robber in his getaway car. Now the da is considering charging the homeowner for following him and shooting him outside of his home... like a jury will ever convict though if he is charged

CRAZY! Be careful guys!

I have sold cars and used appliances with no problems. I don't think I would do coins or precious metals. Just too many crazies out there.

Just did my first SALE on Craigslist. Meeting in public of course, as I said before. Sold an assortment of Indian and steel cents, Liberty, Buffalo, and War Nickels, 40% halves, 2 1909 VDB cents and a 1915-D cent. A 96 coin lot for $90. Wanted $100 originally, but the ad had been running for about 2 months.

Craigslist is a good way to go if you are SELLING US 90% silver. I have sold a total of about $40 face at 13.5 to 14 times in the last few weeks. I advertise as being 25% over melt, for GOOD QUALITY coins, and sometimes go down just a little from there. I also sold $10 face of decent looking Barber halves and Standing Liberty quarters for 15 times face. I have gotten maybe 6 inquiries, and sold some to 3 people, for more than I could have gotten at a LCS. It is now apparent to me that the quality of your 90% can make a real difference when you sell. I was always a choosy buyer of 90%, so I have lots of AU quarters, VF/EF Franklins etc.

On the buying side, I have bought about 30 grams of 14K gold, mostly scrap but some resalable, for about 60% of melt.

Craigslist is now almost equal to estate sales for me, in terms of deal hunting.

Yep, I meet at Starbucks.
