Thanks for the responses to my inquiry. I am very happy to see all of the high grade appraisals of the coin's grade.

I won it on ebay for $36. The auction photo showed it in a holder labeled "Gem BU!" with a $550.00 price on it. I took that with a grain of salt, but it did look like a nice coin. It turns out the seller was being honest about the grade.

Knowing the value of the 1923 with FB in both MS-65 and MS-66, I am going to consider submitting the coin to NGC for grading.

An acetone soak first might do it a world of good.

Submit it. I like Ed's suggestion of acetone as well. Heck, I'd be thinking of something even more nefarious myself.

I am going to go against the grain here and say 63-64. 1923 is one of the best looking pre-depression issues and gets graded harshly.

I finally got around to giving the Mercury the acetone treatment. It's a little less "hazy" and the gold toning shows up some more.

Nice coin. The surface appeared rubbed or lightly scratch on the obverse, evident at the rim area. I think the highest it will grade a 65-FB on a better day, but would sure be a 64-FB in my opinion. The light can play tricks.

I finally got around to sending this lovely Mercury to NGC last week. The coins should be arriving there tomorrow.

I'll let folks know what NGC says.

Just saw NGC grading results. The coin received an "MS-65 FB" grade so I'm very happy with that, especially considering I only paid $23 for it.

I checked my previous posts and it looks like I paid $36 for this one, not $23.

But it's still a nice profit.

Makes up for the two "Details" coins I had in this group.
