Hi I'm new to collecting coins. I bought a 1921s morgan and was worried that it may be fake. I can't tell by looking at the luster and don't own a set of scales. It came graded xf-45. It looks different from my other silver coins and was hoping someone could help me figure out if it's real. Its my first and only morgan. Sorry my camera kinda sucks. The s was so small I couldn't see it with my eyes. Thanks for any help!

I can tell silver pretty good by sound but if it is real I don't wanna beat it up so I guess I need scales. Thanks

As Fuzzy stated, it's impossible to make a definitive call from your image but it is encouraging that the mint mark is very small. I could see the Chinese counterfeiters missing that detail and making it a normal size mint mark for the rest of the series. Getting a scale to check the weight is a good idea but not always definitive either. Many cast counterfeits are produced thicker than authentic coins to achieve the proper weight. Why would anyone counterfeit an xf 1921 Morgan dollar. I don't mean to disappoint you, but, since you are new to this you may as well learn now, that is at best a $20 coin (I hope you didn't pay to much for it). So unless it looks so bad that it could be a novelty coin not intended to look real, I would after that it is real And just polished.

Even with the bad photo, this one is most likely genuine. Color seems right and the Chinese fakes are usually pretty easy to spot. Congrats on your first Morgan!

For $13 I'd say you did fine. I was afraid you had been had. But $13 is a pretty good price. Enjoy.

I'm reading you paid $33, not $13. Correct?
The chances of 1921 being fake are fairly slim. It can happen, but not terribly often.
Congratulations on your first Morgan, regardless.
