Jeez... Not too far from where I work... It's scary how bad the drug problems are in some of the suburbs in New England

Longstanding issue in CT. One of the 'richest' states, so we are prone to these events.

What a magnificent son to be proud of!
NOT.

I regard the drug dealer as the main enemy of the family, and I would do anything necessary under police guidance, to have him convicted.

As a father, the coins involved would have been of little relevence for me.

This is the sort of mentality I instilled into my kids, even before they started elementry school.

I think he "found" some $5 1896 Educationals to use.

I don't know which is worse, stealing the coins or using the stolen coins to buy drugs.

Piece of Dung would be out of my house. Nothing worse than a Drug Addict. I'm sure the father knew he had a problem and tried to help him. Who knows I certainly don't but I do know what I would do.

You can try to help them, but they need to realize they have a problem. Some people you just cannot help.

Absolutely terrible. There was just a local story (upstate NY), where a coin collection was stolen and cashed in at a coinstar... Something like $1000 in FV. I'll see if I can find the newspaper article and post it to this thread.
