Happened to me this weekend. Not a lot of fun but it's part of selling. I just agree to cancel & under the ebay system select buyer requested cancellation.

Will most of you who sell ask the second highest bidder if they want it in a case someone does something like this and bails out?

I have just started trying to get some items and have been 'sniped' out and was just wondering.

If I should start a new thread then just let me know.

Thanks.

At least he asked for the cancellation. Some simply don't pay. If you don't want it, don't bid. I have actually made bids in error that turned out well. One time I meant to bid $32.56 and bid $3256 instead but the winning bid was worth it. Even dealers would pay me what I paid so I paid wholesale.

You can't leave him a neg anyway, as he's the buyer. But I don't think feedback can be left for a cancelled sale.. not 100% sure on that, though.

I get these a lot and they are extremely irritating

Of course many bad sellers simply retaliate against buyers for negative feedback that was richly deserved. You ever here the customer is always right? Are you sure selling on ebay is for you if you have such animosity against buyers? I allow cancellations since I accept returns and a cancellation is better than a return.

I avoid this, simply because I feel many buyers are instantly suspicious of shilling on second chance offers

In any other real world business, the customer is NOT always right. Sometimes, plainly speaking, the customer is a lunatic. ebay is certainly tilted in the favor of the buyer at this point in time, at others it may have been in the favor of the astute, nefarious seller. 99% of the interactions I have on ebay are pleasant. The 1% that are not, are beyond unpleasant.

Yes, back in the day, ebay was heavily slanted toward the seller. Obviously they had to make a change. What happens to sales in general or bid amounts if buyers get turned off to ebay and not come back? Amazon's system is even more buyer centric, since Amazon sells many things themselves and can't afford to lose their own customers.

No buddy cat the buyer is not even close to always right. Nearly 10000 transactions over 15 years and a million plus in sales tells me ebay is definitely for me. Sure augments my coin business and for the most part is quite pleasurable. Believe me there are far more bottom feeder and bidiot buyers on ebay than there are bad sellers. My reputation and professional memberships are far more important to me than leaving what you call a retaliatory negative. This is my business and I certainly want happy, repeat customers. I will bend over backwards for any good client if that what it takes..................for bidiots and bottom feeders .................please shop where you are welcomed.
