You couldn't have found a better place to increase your knowledge of coin collecting. Some of the smartest people on the subject are members of this community. Ask many questions, and learn.
I commend your first choice of coins to collect, but be warned.....Morgan Dollars are addictive.

If you are going to actively collect Morgan dollars I recommend you get the Red Book's Guide to Morgan dollars by Q. David Bowers it is a great source of information.

HA!

Coin collecting is addictive. I am not a Morgan dollar collector and many others who are not have the same affliction as the die hard Morgan dollar collectors have.

Darth Morgan, I want your avatar coin. That peripheral blue toning is awesome.

Thank you for all the replies. I don't have many Morgans yet because they are more expensive. The ones I have I have gotten from pawn shops that were selling them pretty close to spot value on them. I am thinking of starting a WL half book because I have way more of those than anything. Also I am almost done with my Roosevelt book that goes up to 1963 or 64 one, I am only about 5 spots shy of having it completed. Did I over pay for the Morgans I posted? I gave about $18-$20 each for them at different places.

At that price you couldn't have overpayed unless you're a dealer :) you did good!... as a rule of thumb ANY low grade Morgan, no matter the condition, unless it's cut in half is valued at least $5 over silver spot retail. You got it at $3-$4 over. And those have decent eye appeal for what they are

Thanks! The toning is actually a very pleasant bluish-green color. It is lovely. One of my favorites for sure. I posted the TruView image somewhere else. I can't remember where, but here it is in case you didn't see it:
