I would sell one like this for about $20-25 so yes, a little high. Live and learn...we've all been there. If you get a chance to see Tom Reynolds and his inventory, it will blow your mind. He is a true old schooler and friend. He does not believe in slobbed coins. He has some of the nicest high grade rare stuff I've ever seen. I'm talking raw AU Chains, High MS Draped Bust LC's.
Cool story and I'm glad you had a great time!

Ok, I see the price you paid now. I didn't even read what you had below the main paragraph thinking it was your Sig. Thanks! KP

Awesome coin and great story. Believe me, each and everyone of us at some point have paid for our coin education.

Sounds like the dealer took advantage of you by selling it for over double retail value. I would be hesitant to do further business there. When I was a YN I got ripped off a few times from dealers, so be a bit more careful. We will help guide you in the forums.
Thanks for posting.

I'd just say I shouldn't take those huge risks with "unknown variety" coins. The dealer did however have some good advice, such as "a dealer does not know absolutly everything about his stuff." However, there is a bright side to everything. I got some walking libertys that look VF-XF for $9 each. The incredible bargain bin, everybody.

I'm going to reverse that bummer with the shipping fee Quote: If your order is $99 or more, and you live anywhere in the U.S. (all 50 states), shipping is on us! Should you choose to order less than $99, you'll pay just $5.95 for shipping,

You didn't overpay for anything. A seminar offering all you learned on that one day - especially at the early copper guy's table - would have cost you $500. And you got a free 200-year-old Large Cent for it.

I like your large cent. It looks AG IMHO. I like the original surfaces.

My best guess is Sheldon - 259.

I agree S-259. The reverse is without a doubt 258 or 259 and the spacing of the date matches 259 better than 258.

I've looked at some pictures, and Its no doubt a "ghost 3" large cent. I see this because of the middle point in the "3," which looks short. I'm not gonna argue with R-4
