Fascinating coin!! Quote: ...should be late die state Overton 120a... ebay has 3 other O-120a 1806 DBHs for sale, for comparison. They all have the Cud noted here but in varying degrees. The O-120a reverse die cracks and the Pointed 6 with Stem through Claw on the reverse narrows the Overton down fairly quickly.

I think it's the bullet-proof shield variety! XF45.

I see this coin as solidly graded at ANACS AU-50. There is a lot of luster around the obverse periphery and over much of the entire reverse. Surfaces look completely original with no hairlines and almost no contact marks. The coin sold previously in a Stack's auction and at the time was listed in the condition census for the variety. I wonder if it would be worth crossing to PCGS. Would the grading fee be a good investment if I can get it in a PCGS AU-50 slab? I don't think PCGS states Overton variety on their slabs; maybe NGC would be a better choice for that reason? Anyway, thanks for the comments!

I like the old ANACS holders and would not send it to PCGS unless you plan to sell and then be sure to specify AU50 minimum grade. PCGS will atribute Overtons http://www.pcgs.com/varietyfaq.htmlThe reverse looks to be an easy cross at 50 with the obverse strike possibly holding it to 45.
