Mint mark styles. More food for thought.

It looks a little different, it seems to me, than the way it should.

See the example here for 1945:

Pete - I stopped splitting hairs and counting seconds long ago. Life's to short.

John1, seeing something so pay attention. Makes me reevaluate often. Thanks, Doug.

This a normal Ball serif mint mark. Note the center of the mint mark at the top.

Note the upside down "V" on the upper loop on the mint mark. That is in the normal position. On the inverted ones it is on the bottom loop.

Thanks, coop - your images are more helpful than what I see on Variety Vista! They list the Ball Serif for the 1946 as "scarce". I am thinking that means around an R-5.

I pulled this coin from circulation over 60 years ago! Only now am I learning enough to understand what I have!

Lots of fun!

I would not call them scarCe. Maybe harder to find. But BU ones maybe more of a scarce one to find. I'd still keep it safe. No need to toss them back.

So the inverted MM always has a weak spot on the bottom of the S ? In coops pics the normal ball serif has a larger "ball" on the bottom and kakaratt77 shows a larger "ball" on the top ?
