WOW! Funny, its been years since I was able to get to a bank up there. But all the time growing up in the 70s, when able to I would get across the border and ask for dollar coins and halves. There were many times I came back with nothing. They were very hard to acquire.
I remember one time while on a trip to Nova Scotia we stopped at a bank and the teller had no idea Canada ever made halves!

So, I guess there was some miscommunication. They don't have them all here, kinda a let down. He is going to get them all sent from the other branches so more likely there is no silver. I have to wait and see

ya, when I heard the 1,000$ number any bank would have sent them back in, for credit..i know my bank is a thousand dollars between coin and bills, and they send them away.

>But I have my fingers crossed for you..

Not necessarily. The BMO I worked for when they switched from bills to loonies had a couple thousand in unc bundles and they were still there when I left two years later. It's a hassle to send them back with the paper work, so it often only happens after an examiner has been by. So, while silver is a long shot, there's still hope for some nice nickel dollars.

The Manager was actually very apologetic, said what he meant to tell me was that in their internal system, it showed that there was about $1000 at multiple branches.

he said if I wanted them all, he could have them delivered to the branch in a few days, no issues. I asked him about pennies as well, and he said no problem, I will get them to transfer them as well.

so I am not sure exactly what I will see, be it a pallet full of pennies, or a few boxes, but I am sure in fro a score.

Good luck.

Is it hard to get pennies in Canada now? Or are the banks getting rid of them quickly?
