plus these were a first year dollar and our first commem. I'm sure they were very popular in their day(they still are) and many were put away, there are many lower grades out there but it is an easy coin in gem and even 66, with ms-67s still being found in the wild.

Really nice, and yes, looks like an easy 65 to me.

Very Nice, I really like the obverse on these. These coins are tough to photograph and you've presented some great pictures here, thanks.
Cheers, Bill

I was looking over this dollar tonight and noticed that the chin and arm are doubled on the voyager as well the 3 and 5. Die cracks off LLA in dollar. The coin also has a very heavy ghost. Funny what you miss sometimes.

Quote: Choice best describes it No, "gem" does, as that's the accepted term for a 65. "Choice" is the accepted term for an MS-63. I know you know this, so I am not sure why you said it.

No, its 63-Brilliant UNC., 64-choice brilliant UNC and then gem. I think choice would be an acceptable term for the grade though. Either way, he said his nu!medical grade.

Since I am an old timer there might be a problem with semantics here. As I stated , my thoughts are the coin is an easy MS65. Therefore in today's terms GEM UNC. Old duffers like me still say things like " That is a very choice coin". This one is a very choice piece. Indeed a lot of us who are longtime coin geeks will use words rather than numerics to describe coins. It sucks getting to be an old geezer .

Fair enough Pacific. The overlap in terminology in this hobby is enormous. I might call something "superb" looking at a 66 grade, when in reality it's the term for a 67+ grade.
