i am soaking it in acetone today, and will verdicare it tommorow. I' don't see any evidence of it being cleaned. The obverse is darker than the reverse, but that's not surprising to me since the reverse side has been hidden inside the whitman folder for 65+ years.

Wow, my 55 was way too high.
Learn something new at least every day here, if not every post :)

I just mailed this off to ANACS along with what I think is a mint state 1893 colombian half. According to anacs grading time should be 15 days, so I expect to have them back a couple days before august. Here are the pictures after my conservation. I soaked it for over 16 hours in acetone, rinsed it, then treated each side with verdicare for about 2 hours and 30 mins. To be honest I don't see much difference other than the obverse being slightly brighter.

Thanks! Its part of a collection I'm selling on commission for a friend. After looking at the 5 NGC graded AU 50's David Lawrence has up for sale on ebay, I'm going to predict that this comes back at a 50 or a 53 but we'll see how ANACS compares in their grading of these

Well, good luck anyway. Even if your work didn't help much, it's a nice-looking example.

In your photos it doesn't look cleaned but an even brownish color. But, I suppose in hand they must see light scratches. AU-50 for this coin is pretty nice though.
