Coin is barely F-15, if that. Look at the shield.

I should look at my pictures closer before posting. All the lines on the shield are present, totally washed out by the lighting on these images, the abrasions seen may also be a product of lighting, can't be seen under a 10x loupe....better camera is coming :)

On both the Barber halves and quarter the extension of wear along the wings, particularly the left wing on grade 40-58 examples, is always the most indicative factor of technical grade.

Even on those years and mms typically found w soft strikes.

This virges on 25, but the abrasive cleaning drops the value well below VF price.

Same coin, different lighting angle and background. Closer to in hand appearance. Really not seeing a cleaning on this one.

Look at all of the tiny parallel vertical lines on Libery's cheek. That's not circulation wear. That's abrasive cleaning.

I see the vertical...but there are also sideways and this way and that way in hand which are an indication of circulation marks in my mind....but given what I've been able to produce from a picture standpoint I guess I can see a cleaning conclusion...supposed to have a nicer camera from UPS tomorrow, this will be a good test subject :)

Agree with moxking. Okay, possibly VF-20.

Judging strictly from photos only is always difficult, especially when tiny details are so important in forming an opinion.

The parrellel vertical lines certainly indicate cleaning and even though you say there are more lines in other directions, that doesn't mean it isn't cleaned, it only means that on the pictures I see the light is only showing that one line direction.

If you want a little better proof, try this - get a handful of currently circulating coinage. I realize none of that coinage will be as soft as this silver quarter, but it will help as a test.

I also realize coinage no longer circulates as much as it did 100 years ago, but there again, it's what we have to work with.

The chances of finding a currently circulating coin that has been abraisivly cleaned is pretty tiny.

See if you can find a single coin with circulation marks similar to what you think you see on this Barber. I'm guessing you wont.

If you see nothing similar, then it is more likely the pattern of lines you see on this Barber are indeed cleaning.

It's definitely VF details. If it wasn't a details coin, I'd see VF-25 on this coin all day long. The "Liberty" is fairly full, almost COMPLETELY there, however there is just some high points that don't completely match it to be a full liberty in my opinion.

I'm torn. I see the vertical hairlines, but it's not consistent on the whole coin. That spot might have gotten scuffed somehow. Might be worth sending to ANACS on their next free grading deal. Will only cost you about $12 to find out.
