Liberty's wing is too crisp. Something is goofy.

MS64 here as well. Not quite enough meat for FSB.

Not sure why someone would fake a 1929, but here's a closeup. Date looks alright to me. First pic might be causing some weird effect on the date.

much better look at the date. that first pic was a mind trick! I'm back in the authentic camp and at MS63.

I'm more certain than ever this is a fake. I don't like that date at all, and there is something about the details on lady liberty that doesn't sit right with me either. The rims seem overly thin compared to any genuine Mercury dimes I've ever seen. I made side-by-side comparisons of this coin next to genuine examples. Does anyone else agree that it looks suspicious?

I have to agree with you Rollsearcher37, unless it's an optical illusion, Liberty's face on the coin in question seems to sag down a bit, particularly the nose and chin, it just doesn't look right. I agree, why would they make a common counterfeit, but we've seen plenty of them.

I still think the toning is playing tricks with what we see, but the more I study the face, the more she looks like Whistler's mother. Maybe you're right.

Looks real to me. Thinking the "2" looks distorted through the Mylar. I'd say it's a nicely toned MS-65. It really is pushing Full Bands IMHO. Would have to see it in person with my 30x loupe!

Ha, this has turned into an interesting discussion! I got my loupe out again and I can confirm that the little "spot" on the 2 and weird distortion around the numbers is due to the toning.

I think it's real and a well-struck, toned MS64 (no FB due to hits on bands.) Go compare it to Photograde and check the hair detail between a PCGS MS-64, 65 or 66 and OP's coin.

Alright, that last picture does it. It's real. What a difference lighting makes though! It's always good to see friendly and interesting discussions here at CCF; you can learn a lot from it.
