I have quite a few free PCGS and NGC subs. My thinking was that if I crack it out, acetone it, and resubmit, I could get a grade improvement. It's a cheap coin, so I don't have any qualms about attempting it.

I'll go VF20 as well, but not so sure it's been cleaned. Show us what you achieve with acetone and a Q-tip.

Too many red halos around the devices, especially on the obverse. imo this was cleaned back to a copper color a long time ago and has since retoned. There shouldn't be any red showing on this coin. There are a couple of nice die cracks on the reverse which should help with the attribution.

I agree, Ed. I'm planning on some acetone to see if it gets the junk off, crack out and resub. I have a few free subs to pcgs/ngc.

So, are you saying it's currently graded problem-free?

It is, but I don't like the gunk all over the coin.

Wow, if you have that coin in a righteous holder, I'd leave it. The holder is the best thing going for that coin. Why grab defeat from the jaws of victory.

Find another messed up large cent to play with, there are tons of them out there cheap

Points well considered. I think I'll leave it alone.

Yes, it is in a problem free holder. It was a very cheap purchase from a local seller (about 20 miles away.)
