Thanks all again. Off to do some coin hunting in Jordan( am a little nervous haven't been there for a few years) amongst other things. You have all reassured me. The purchase experience, though nothing wrong with it, was different enough to perhaps have made me more concerned than perhaps I should have been

From your second post it kind of sounded like you weren't the highest bidder originally and that deal fell through and then it came to you. Something about the delay and the not getting the invoice just didn't sit right.
Like they say though, the fruit grows on the limb of the tree. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Nice coin, enjoy Jordan.

How much did you pay? I don't know what the conversion would be to US dollars but I think you did pretty good for living in Austria. Makes you wonder how these coins end up their, what their story is.

Weigt & specific gravity are must do procedures on any raw specimens of these. Provided there are no surprises in the results of those tests, I'd judge thisn to be a wholly satisfactory "type" coin.

well I'm in Jordan. All your comments are reassuring. Yes I suspect I wasn't the first successful bidder but it can only ever be a suspicion I paid the equivalent of US$350.00 which I think is a over value. However I was looking for a type coin, and one from San Francisco. I don't think I will be +a customer of that Auction house again.I do take risks with some auction houses but usually only in my area expertise. I broke my own rules buying outside my knowledgebase from an unknown,to me, seller.

Looks legit to me. It has some cleaning to it though. The value would be around $200-$250. What did you pay for it?

If authentic, that would sell on ebay on any given day around $235-$280. I have been looking to pull the trigger on one myself for a while. You paid a little high, but if you plan to keep long term its not bad. If you do want to resell, I recommend sending it in, not many will buy unslabbed Trade dollars.

Hi, I recently bought what is the worst ever fake 1877 Trade dollar purely for the amusement factor and to show what absolute rubbish is being manufactured in attempt to trick coin collectors. I only wish all fakes were this easy to spot. Here are the pictures: I'd really like to know who this Gop is they so willingly trust! Thanks for looking

So what exactly does this have to do with the original thread?

It was to show that there are a lot of obvious fakes out there and hopefully by putting an image of an obvious fake coin on this thread, they could make a comparison.
Thanks
