I agree with Nancy. They are certainly collectable, but I wouldn't bother buying one. I got a $1 2001 IYOV double rim Cud today. I must admit that it was the only rim Cud in $1000, and that they are are becoming a little scarcer, but they are still around and all you need to do is a little noodling.

I got 2 more $2 Rim Cuds today. I'll add them to the list in my 1st post about them. Might as well keep the list up to date.

This is interesting - I just took a look at Yass' examples and I'm quite puzzled. It seems the Cuds are predominately on the left - any reason why? I was expecting a reasonable 50-50% on both left and right but most of the examples so far are on the left. Nancyc seems to have a better distribution of the Cuds.

I was thinking exactly the same thing this weekend. I have lots of rim Cuds, but I don't recall any real Cuds on the right hand side of a coin.

Perhaps its the way I look for errors. On the $1 coins, I generally start at the smallest roos ear and work my way around anti-clockwise. I'm pretty sure I'd pick up a right hand Cud, but I'll be a little more careful. I'll ask some colleagues if they've got any.

Pulled a 2007 2 dollar coin with a rim Cud today - also at the bottom left of the Elizabeth side.

I commented once that $2 rim Cuds were more common than $1 rim Cuds & was sort of 'howled down, (not here)' for the comment. The thing is, my stats now prove it.

These coins searched stats are just since I started keeping figures, Jun 2007. The Rim Cuds found are from when I started noodling, maybe 4-5 yrs ago, but it's easily seen that I search way more $1's than $2's.

$2 coins searched - 5370 - 44 Rim Cuds
$1 coins searched - 7831 - 28 Rim Cuds

I also have a further 10 x $2 that I call 'folded rim' which are not included in my stats. Other people may call them rim Cuds but I don't. I've probably tossed back 20 - 30 of these 'folded rim' coins, as there's so many for 1999.

So is that picture what would be described as a 'folded rim' Cud or just a 'regular' rim Cud?

That one above is a regular old standard rim Cud.

I don't have the camera at present (it's not mine), so maybe a description might not go astray until the camera's available.

What I call a 'folded rim', or 'rim fold' occurs when for whatever reason one area of the coin ends up with an edge that's unusually high & this edge 'folds' over on to the rim. I believe they're caused by a 'collar clash' during the minting process.

The result is a bit similar to a Rim Cud, but does not cover the entire width of the rim. Some are a bit like a oval that's been pulled from both ends, wider in the middle & tapering on both ends., others are just uneven shapes & blobby looking.

This is what I have:

With my limited camera skills, this is the best photo I can come up with
This does not look like a 'real' rim Cud, that's why I refer to them as rim folds. They are not very thick.

Here's a couple more that I found a while ago:

I found 2000 2 dollar coins are pretty difficult to find - never dreamt of finding one with a Cud!
