Ya know there is something really strange with these coins and the TPG ..
There appears to be no consistency what so ever , this coin is graded VF 35 by anacs ..
Before I ever posted this I searched ebay just comparing , I found several NgC and a few pcgs VF35 coins that look identical as far as amount of detail go .. The weird part is for ever 1 I find in that grade that looks like this coin there will also be 1 that has more detail ...
So what does this meAn ? It's a VF 35 if you send it to them on a certain dày and a VF 25-30 if it arrives on Another ?
So after I looked at probably 50 of these graded VF 20-35, It does appear that my coin consistently looks better than the coins graded VF 20 , yet looks similar to coins in the VF 25-35 range ..
I really don't know what to make of this , I've really never seen such obvious inconsistencies ..

Here's a good example of what I mean ..
These two coins looks similar to mine , I didn't go out of my way to find these .. I typed in date and grade ,these are 2 of the first 4 you see for 1858 VF 35 ..
I could have also typed in say VF 25 or 30 and found a couple that would look similar ..
What do you guys make of this ?

The Flying Eagles being struck in copper-nickel was a learning experience for the mint. They had problems with the strike on many of them. Your coin is weak in the eagle's tail but the wing feathers are very much like the two NGC coins.

@indiangoldeagle

I remember reading somewhere about how they had problems working with this alloy !!
So am I right by saying the coins that I've seen graded VF35 that look similar to say VF 25 coins are just weakly struck?
The coin In question is the only flying eagle I own , I purchased it for my type set so I don't know a lot about these ..
I've thought well did anacs get it right or are they way off ? If what I'm seeing as over grading is indeed weakly struck examples then it would make sense ..

When grading your coin I referenced PCGS Photograde.
http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/Flying/Grades

I had it somewhere between VF-20 & VF-25.

IMO your coin looks like a fairly strong strike in the wings.

I would grade your coin VF25. It is my opinion that all of the TPG's are glaringly inconsistent about about 10 percent of the time.

I was gonna guess VF-30. It has more detail than this 1857 Flyer in a new ANACS VF-20 holder:

@jaobler
This whole thing has me puzzled , your coin in my opinion has just a tad less detail on the obverse mainly the sharpness of the head and a few feathers .. Now the reverse I can tell a little more difference there , by the way I just love the clip on that coin !!
I guess If mines in the VF 25-30 range anacs wasn't off by a whole lot ...
What gets me though is I can find a dozen vf20 coin that have just a touch less detail than my coin, then turn around and find VF 35 coins that will look like mine from all the top company's but then also find vf35s that look better by a decent amount ...
I guess it's just one of those things !!
