Thanks a lot ya'll. You're making me feel good. It's been a while since I found a nice coin. Up until this one, the only Trail Die I owned was this 99 LMC. I guess my new nickel makes up for that. I found a couple other varieties about the same time I found this nickel. I'll post them soon. It seems like it's either feast or famine. lol

It can happen like that. I haven't found a nickel with trails yet, but I was happy to see yours posted. Stay with it; trails are a fun item to collect!!

I'm thinking they might be the "strong Doubled Die" of the future. After the single squeeze, Strong doubled dies are less frequent and there is a limited supply. Just surmising a bit though, we don't really know how many trail dies will appear.

Sweet! How are trail dies formed?

It's a thermal energy thing. At the end of the hubbing the pressure is released and due to heat there is expansion and horizontal movement and a few other things that I really don't understand. I do know it is on the die.

Thanks Coop, for the link. 224, I think you probably want to search nickels anyway. Lol. Seriously though, they are found on pennies also, and I guess all denominations.
