I very very seldom find anything worth talking about at these shows, as I see many of the same dealers. I'm a variety large cent guy and found an 1882 2/1 heavy R/P'd, but only in VG ... still in Charlton for $300 and it cost me less than 5.
However, with the same dealer, I told him that he had a couple coins unmarked that were pretty scarce, so I got his 2 coins marked up by over $100.

Now that's a very NICE cherry pick okie!
Did you stick around for the auction? What was the atmosphere like? I only did a few bids online... with limited range of success.

It seems to be very slow today, had a nice long chat with Henry at the RCNA table and with some other dealers, missed my regulars. There was a bunch of multistruck nickel dollars bought by a famous Toronto dealer at Halifax RCNA got pcgs, but was already sold for an insane price, oh well

For Canadian coins, I counted; Unsold: 35 (19.4%) Below expected (including BP) or not sold: 85% A few lots went above expected, including one of the ones I was looking at for a hole filler (87 quarters mostly silver), about $320 after shipping and tax. Should have bid higher, will be regretting it for a bit. Out of curiosity, does anyone know where they get there estimates from? It seems to me that most sold at 30% below the low estimate, which seems to be a consistent thing with theses auctions. Is it just part of the strategy to get more bids or is this actually based in some kind of reality?

Prices did seem to go lower than I'm used to seeing at the Expo auctions. I picked up a few lots, nothing exciting though. Would have liked that New Zealand mule

Like most auctions, the juice and HST is around 30% so except for the must have pieces, these fees factor heavily into the bidding, if there was a 1.00 start the consignee will be destroyed in todays market.

I've attended a couple TO Coin Expos in the past, generally for the GB auction more than anything else. However, given the location of the venue, I stopped going simply because it's such a hassle/inconvenience for me to get to. Notwithstanding that point, I think this Fall's GB auction was much lighter in their cataloged offering compared to prior auctions they've hosted, especially with their Canadian decimal. Typically I'd be a player in many of the lots they offer, but this time around, I was only interested in about 3 lots. As a result, the turnout and online participation seemed significantly lower than past Coin Expos, and it seemed like most lots sold at the opening bid, while many others didn't sell at all; at least, that's the feeling I got from participating online last night. As for the dealer floor, it doesn't seem any different to me than any other bourse floor of traveling coin shows that can be visited elsewhere throughout the year; although, I recognize Coin Expo will host a much larger gathering of dealers and enthusiasts.

One of the dealers I like marks up his stuff according to the US exchange rate. That rate has spiked since the last Coin Expo so I'm not even going to bother this year.

For me,..it was a most successful show to partake in. Chatted with most of the regulars and had a chance to see a few .. "future Perth Collection " pieces and chat and share coins with the owner. The auction did offer a nice surprise for the 3 amigos sitting at the back... Thoroughly satisfying Friday and Saturday.. and looking forward to the next one... It can't come soon enough..

The New Zealand mule was an ugly ms 60, but it sure garnered a great price at this auction.

I was sad to miss it this fall. Devlec, will we see you out at Nuphilex at the end of the month?
