I think the reverse warrants a PO1. The idea they added a + would be humorous.....

slug-1. It's ridiculous, how come you tell if there's a problem other than the obvious one of extreme erosion? What did PCGS say and did they put a Smiley by the grade?

I'm thinking P-01 as well.

What so you think about those scratches on the reverse? Could they warrant a PO-01 Details grade?

Quote: how can you tell if there's a problem other than the obvious one of extreme erosion? Are we looking at the same coin? I see no signs of "extreme" corrosion Quote: What so you think about those scratches on the reverse? Could they warrant a PO-01 Details grade? Personally, I would expect an honestly worn FR-2 or PO-1 to have a few minor old scratches.

Can you even imagine a coin minted in the last 100 years surviving to this state!

I seems I was much too harsh with my estimate. The coin is obviously not in basal state.

I was drooling on ebay last night because there were a set of PCGS PO-1 coins up: 1796 dollar, 1795 half dollar, 1796 quarter (i think those were the dates) and an 1803 gold coin also in PO-1. Way out of my price range, but still fun to imagine.
