I'd prefer one that's been counterstamped.

Its really not "that" awful...as Vermontensium noted the O/S is abundantly clear & last night when I posted was still only @ $3.00. What really got me was the title. Definite attention grabber. Quote: (reverse psychology?) I think so. I almost bid just for giggles.

Thinking he still gets $25-30 for this as its a popular VAM and someone starting out will appreciate the obvious mintmark. If the owner cherrypicked this out of a scrap silver purchase, nice little profit. If it wasn't for the reverse markings, I might jump in for the conversation piece. This coin has stories to tell!

I'd say it'll go for $50 +/-

Lost Dutchman is a good dealer, very trustworthy. It is still identifiable as a VAM 4 due to no die gouges in the hair curl, and a non-broken S. Cool coin. It is on my watch list.

I bet it will actually sell for more than it would have with a generic snoozer of a listing, or worse, one of those RARE KEY DATE UNC MS PL BU GEM +++++++++++++ titles with the ink-covered 2x2's.
I almost bid on it before I realized I'd then have 4 1882-O's which seemed a bit excessive.

I wonder what kind of exposure this thread will have on the auction and how that will affect the final bidding. I'm sure this site can account for a decent premium for the seller.

Quote: I wonder what kind of exposure this thread will have on the auction and how that will affect the final bidding Still at @ paultry $11.50 I'm sure they're will be some action in the final moments... Ugly or not, I'm hard pressed to pass up a 130+ year RPM Morgan for peanuts.

I saw it as a result of this thread and threw a bid at it and was immediately outbid, so someone has a decent high bid in place. I've certainly seen worse. Knowing nothing about VAMs and current value, I will guess $32 in a true stab in the dark.

Three different O/S dies were used in 1882, VAMs 3, 4 and 5. I think this is VAM-4 due to the location of the crossbar of the S. I doubt this is worth much, though, as a raw F/VF with rim damage sold for $26.50 on ebay in 2008. Since this is obviously in a lower grade and also has rim damage, I would estimate low $20's factoring in inflation. EDIT: added link to VAMworld page: http://www.vamworld.com/1882-O+VAM-4
