Interesting. I just did an ebay search and only found 5 or 6 in GSA, all $5000 or so give or take a thousand, more give than take really. Anyway, also found this one for $200. Looks like it is supposed to be GSA but isn't. May not even be a real coin. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1890-CARSON...AOSwd0BVyXBc

I think the soft packs will have a high premium in the next decade too. I may pursue some soft pack CC after I build my hard pack set.

Be careful on the rare date plastic slab GSA CC's. Inspect the seam on the plastic of the slab VERY carefully. Dishonest folks have tried to "reslab" 1890-CC's to slabs from other dates to gain the "plastic premium".
I would recommend settling for a nice, original surface coin in a PCGS holder.

Interesting. Found an 1884 CC GSA at a Sunday market place, they wanted $210 for it but I passed. Was a beautiful Morgan dollar though.

If you are going to buy online for your type of coin I would buy only graded and slabbed coins. If I was going to spend $5000 on a coin ebay would worry me. What I find with ebay is the prices are retail plus. I want a 1916 LSQ and what I have seen on ebay is pretty awful and over priced. You got these dealers saying a coin with an illegible date is in VF condition. When I buy from ebay I always say to myself "never again" after having to chase down my refund for undelivered coin or coin misrepresented.

I just talked with Marie from Southgate coins and she told me they're going to try and locate me a lower end 90CC. The better ones can go 10-20k, I told her my ceiling is 5-6k. She thinks it's a great long term investment over a 20 year period.

When I look at the GSA 1890 Morgan CC coins, I see a bubble. This GSA coin has more than doubled in price over the last 4 years, in the last couple of months it has started going down in price. The coin prices on most of the CC coins are over inflated when compared to population totals. I would have a concern that with the GSA coin that you are buying the package/slab and not the coin. If the CC bubble burst, the price inflated GSA coins will most likely will fall the hardest. In a GSA package you are going to get a MS61 or MS62 for 5K or 6K and the actual value of the coin in the package is about $600. I disagree with you dealer as it appears to be a poor investment at this time because the ship has already sailed.
If you are buying the GSA coins because you want to collect a GSA set, then have a great time collecting the set.

Not expressing any opinion on the investment worthiness of a '90CC in GSA, but completely agree with never listening to the seller on stuff like this.
If it was such a good investment, why is she willing to part with it?
As for buying one or not, it is your money. You worked hard for it I presume. Spend it like you want.
CC Morgans are the king of the US Coin industry period. I don't see the CC Morgans being knocked off their perch anytime soon. So your real risk is a GSA bubble as mentioned or the general decline of coin collecting as older collectors leave the hobby faster than new collectors enter.
Some good advice about not buying the plastic and buying the coin.
My best advice is essentially the same advice I gave to my littlest brother when he started getting interested in the ladies. Don't buy the first one you see no matter what. Be picky.
This is a very thin market. Watch some sales for a year or two and get the trend while you fill some other GSA CC's first.

I'm worried about what Slider said above. The 90CC in the GSA case seems to have exploded in price the last 2 years. Even the 91CC isn't too far behind it, but they're both ultra rare in GSA format.
If it's a bubble, I could be royally screwed over but then again, I'm buying and collecting them because I really like them, not because I'm trying to cut a hog's butt in five years. Is it worth spending that much on? The three high dollar CC GSA coins are the 79Cc, 90Cc, and 91CC. Even in low MS grades I'll have to spend 5k per coin possibly, with the 79Cc being 7-8k...this is getting darn expensive!!

If the GSA Morgan CC coins are a good 20 year long term investment I don't think I will be here in 20 years to reap those benefits. I think buy GE stock is a much better long term investment and not even 20 years. When you start to get investing mixed up with collecting somebody is going to have their lunch money stolen and then be pushed into a mud hole. You should collect what you like and invest in what has best returns. These are often opposite things. If the CC bubble ever bursts a lot of people will be crying. Is it likely that another horde of CC Morgans is going to come on the market?
