Looks like someone tried to clean it after they broke it out.

I think 1k is a good price for this coin. The clarity of Liberty's portrait and the reverse detail despite the pitting are nice plusses. I think if you chose to resell it, it wouldn't take you very long to sell it for what you paid.

Problem free G4 has strong bid support at the 2500-2750 level.
1000 bucks for a severely defective Fair is not entirely unreasonable, perhaps a slight bit high. I don't think CQR is adequate here to cover coins that make scudzy look PQ.

Amran -- Indeed, it's a decent price. No objection from me. Like I said, it might be slightly high, but within the acceptable range.

FR Details Quote: There are no big scratches ,rim bums or damage on this one There's not? The obverse is a strong head strike. That's about where the brakes are hit for a "G" designation. The reverse is unattractive, damaged and not worthy of anything other than a details designation. Outside of the above, beauty and value are in the eye of the beholder. If the OP feels a $1,000 price tag was worth it than so be it, God Bless. If the OP ever decides to resell than the coin will be worth what the next person is willing to pay.

There is a difference from a Deliberate damage old or recent. And then there is deliberate damages to a coin -as with a tool of sorts and that's the worst- unless there was a severe corrosion and removing a clump or ect of Verdigris-. Even though there is pitting in the center rev ---it was not a deliberate-but rather a natural over many years of nature eating the coin. Ha ha --but its true

Any major damage will get a coin a "details" grade, whether deliberate or environmental.

Quote: Any major damage will get a coin a "details" grade, whether deliberate or environmental. But that having been said, I can where the OP is going. It's a matter of self-assessment and perceived value. So, in the case of this coin, a few rim dings and nics aside, you've got a strong head strike, MUCH stronger than most in the FR grade tier. You've got a reverse with some meat left on it, more so than the typical FR range. However, it is damaged nonetheless and that's that. I believe the OP feels that, deep pitted reverse corrosion aside, he's <assumption, forgive please) got the creme dela creme of all FR Details 1793 wreath cents and he ONLY paid $1,000 for this "seemingly" $3,000 coin. I get it. I've been there. Here's the rub I've learned as my Numismatic education and aspirations have evolved over the years: The coin's grade and it's worth are not set by the standards of its owner, but by the standards of the market that will decide and support its value through a resale process. Right now, the coin is actually worthless. It's a $1,000 gone and not to be seen again until such time it goes up for sale.

Dsfreeworld feels the coin is worthless because any coin that has a a Details designation is a total fool for buying such a coin and total loss of money. Wow very smartly said-------ha ha ha ha ha ! I'm rolling with laughter"
