Here is the difference on the rims:
1909-VDB-Cent.-Matte-Proof?
I agree that this is not a matte proof. But a coin to be proud of in any collection.

The surfaces to me were the clue on the OP's coin.

Fairviewcoins is a very reputable ebay user. I honestly think this coin has been retoned from a previous cleaning.

If only that's what it was. If you could sell it for the same price as that PF-67+, that would be a 646,250% increase.

Yeah, I'd say a chance, but don't get your hopes up.

I think it is a good business strike.

I agree. Even as a business strike, I think for $40 it was a good buy. That toning is spectacular.

I might end up selling it. I can't store it without it turning brown. (I think)

But I did want an estimate of the grade. Any ideas?

I think you can get a better understanding of what the "Orange peel effect" looks like if they didn't take a picture of the coin straight on. You need to see a high grade business strike and a proof strike in hand. Then you will be able to see the subtle differences in the mirror fields. The fields are literally rippled with the effect of the orange peel due to the dies being sandblasted. One of these days I will own a matte proof cent. Just probably not the VDB lol. Anyway wait until you get it in hand.

Its a high grade too..id say 65+ taking into effect the great hair details, wheat stalks, no real distraction marks. Maybe one little mark on the cheek that kind of blends in.
