Thanks guys! It's on its way to John for verification and grading. Finding this one has me now checking out my other Morgans. I purchased the "Hot 50" book and I'm enjoying reading old posts here and learning what I can.

Super nice find, I have a couple of them myself, only found one, it is now in an ANACS holder but is polished like chrome.

I actually purchased it already in the details holder, the price was right, as one does not see many of these coins come around for sale often. My other VAM3 is mislabled in a SEGS holder as VAM10 I took in a partial trade from Larry Briggs for an 1878-S Long arrow nock in AU grade I had found raw. It ended up being the discovery piece for VAM 72 back in 2002. Should have kept that one instead. Always did like the shifted eagle variety and had always wanted one since reading about them in the RedBook.

Glad you like the outcome, even if it took a while. That's one of the drawbacks of group grading submissions -- the early submitters have to wait for the late ones before they can start waiting for grading. The end result is a big win for that coin though. Congrats!

Nice! How's it feel to have a thousand dollar VAM Glad I could help by pointing you in messy's direction John, did they label it as DDR on their own? If so, why wouldn't they put vam-3 on the label and go with a generic DDR designation? My guess is because its so prominent but was in a bulk sub without being looked at by the VAM authenticators?

They added the DDR on their own, as it is a " Red Book Variety." A specific VAM number costs $18 per coin extra with PCGS, and it's not available at all with bulk submissions.

Thank you all for the kind words. It was a very fortunate accidental cherry-pick!
