The " National Collector's Mint, Inc" Is Fair To deal with and you can call them at 1888-4NC-MINT. I ordered a penny set without the keys and none of the coins had been cleaned. Tell them what you want and they will accommodate. The Agents are personable and will put together any grade set you want. The co. by Barry Goldwater Jr. Their Web site <www.nationalcollectorsmint.com> They have specials too.

I have purchased several items from littleton coins and have nothing bad to say about them. Their prices are in the same price range as what I would pay at my local dealers. So fare what they said I was getting was what I received. Plus I like the convenience of them being delivered to my door.

If your local dealers are charging what Littleton charges, then your dealers are even more of a ripoff than most dealers!

jcook54,
For example Littleton is charging $26.95 for a 2008 SAE and the closes local dealer to me is charging $24.00 for the 2008 SAE. Shipping from Littleton to my house for that coin is about $4.95. For me to drive to my closest dealer I would use that much in gas if not more. To me $2.95 is not that big of a difference.

Amazing how some people beat me to saying something and word for word. Makes me wonder if I have a double out there somewhre. As to any dealer, coin store, etc charging what Littleton charges, RUN, don't walk in the other direction.

Nice feedback so far ! And a few routes to pursue ! thanks ! And more would be great ! And it seems most are in agreement with Littleton !! Ha Ha That's the best example of what I'm talking about...... I like to have magazines around to look at while at home, and Littleton can be among those....... JUST NOT TO BUY FROM...ONLY LOOK ! That's why I want ideas on "non-internet" sources (no computer at home......just here at the office) Coin mags are really neat to look at and have at home........ just would like to have the "right" ones, if you know what I mean !

I've seen many request on coin web sites for possible great, good or decent on line coin dealers. I always wonder why no one wants to know or have a list of the bad, horrible, to expensive ones.

Thanks indianhead for the positive feedback regarding L & C Coins. I just wanted to clarify that our website is https://www.LCCoins.com, and the address that was posted earlier will no longer work after this weekend. Today we'll be switching to our new website. As of 4/25/08, we'll be offering free shipping on all domestic orders for a limited time.

I have to say one word about some of the companies mentioned on this thread.... CAUTION!I can say this with personal experience and the experience of many others. Go the the PCGS forums and look up the company names in their advanced search engine under the U.S. Coin forum. Be forewarned, your eyes might bleed and your wallet might hurt after some of what you read. I'm not saying all is bleak with some of these companies. You just have to be very informed as to what you're buying. Here are some of my personal experiences: - Bought and returned a scarce 3CN due to evidence of acid wash/etching to improve surfaces
- Bought and returned a 3CN that had a pinscratch that the dealer shrugged of as no biggie and failed to mention it in the description
- Observed numerous cleaned coins with no such description made evident; they treat collectors like birds, they must like shiny, white objects
- Many problem coins that go understated or completely unstated
- Exaggerated grades, especially helped along due to cleaning
The worst part is, you won't know that you go screwed until you go to sell. Perhaps you can take decent enough photos and you can discover that sooner, though. However, there are times these companies will have good coins amongst the schlock. You won't know until you get it in hand and now your playing the expensive postage game (of receive and return).

I have purchased coins from (online/ebay represented) actual coin stores recently and have had good experience because they compete on ebay and are willing ( usually) to adjust their prices a little and accept mutually responsible returns/exchange/refunds. I love those "Make an Offer" listings. There is no real coin store within a hundred miles of me. You want to buy your coins from someone who really knows coins, and if they do, you may get a good deal, but you won't get a steal. It will probably be very close to fair value. 20+ years ago I bought coins from Bowers and Merena and felt they were one of the most expensive stores. I bought a 1972 double die cent ( the exp. one) they graded as MS64 for $250. I also bought one from another dealer also labeled MS64 for $200. Today the Bowers coin grades MS-66 and the other is a MS63. I wish I had more sense 20 years ago and bought more from B&M :( I also have bought coins from Dave's ( Thecollectorsfriend.com) who has good grading skills. He doesn't even have photos of the coins on his webpage, just written descriptions. If someone offers a BU 1884-S Morgan under $500, expect XF+, cleaned. Just my 3 cents worth. Jim

I have bought from Coast to Coast, and L&C Coins. Mostly Morgan dollars. Basically I got what I paid for...no surprises on the downside.

before buying from any dealer, do some searches on Google and all the coin forums. A few of the advertisers in the main coin publications will show up in these searched as sellers who have a reputation of selling cleaned, dipped, or whizzed coins. I am not saying they are all bad, I am simply saying do some research beyond this forum. It will be time well spent

I also want to emphasize that thinking you got a good coin and knowing you got a good coin are two completely different things.
