Hmmmm...that could be an interesting thread. But how to keep it from getting cluttered up with "junk mail"? Maybe a sticky note and a dedicated forum controlled by moderators? A read only for members but writable by the experts (perhaps a new designated title). I don't know.

Interested to find out what this is though.

I would diagnose it as a case of trails. I can't think of anything else it could be.

I also believe it to be a trail die, but enhanced by cold metal flow. This has been seen before, where trails are present and as the die ages the cold metal flow seems to follow that eroded part of the die. Neat! If you let me use your images, I'll put it on the traildies.com site.

John1, Looks like trails. Seems so pronounced yet isolated to the two tips on the 4.

Have to ask / verify you did check and ruled out any plating / bubble issues? Thanks, Doug.
