The sharpness grade is AU, but that rim ding is a killer. These coins come nice, and they are not the easiest coins to resell because of low collector interest. My advice would be to pass. You will find a better one without the problem, especially for the type.

The two toughest dates, after the Proof only dates, which are very hard to find, are the 1849 large date and the 1850.

I agree...beautiful Half Cent until I see the rim ding. Unless it is being offered for a ridiculously good price I would pass.

I would pass - worried about resale difficulty given the gouge.

AU details, reverse rim damage. That said, a somewhat exceptional looking coin so if you don't mind the damage in a non-focal area try to grab it at a discount.

Personally, the rest of the coin is so attractive that the rim ding wouldn't bother me so much if I had it in an album. Of course, if I got it for the right price...

AU Details, I would wait for a better example, unless I could "steal" it for a resale

Thanks everyone! The coin is listed for $179, which seems too high given the gauge. The observe is fairly pristine, so I may offer $150 and see if the seller bites. I'll let you know how it turns out!
