One of my local dealers was selling those toned GSA Morgans at AU prices since GSA had "graded" them as such

The soft packs are the same way. They just did not like toned coins back then. One of my other ones like this
was sent in and graded MS 63.

I like the toning on this one. I think it would also grade MS 63.

We would never get tired of your posts and pictures!!

Nice additions for sure and yes, even with my tiny collection storage and safety are always front and center.

Nice additions GR! I've never seen the multi-GSA boxes, how many does it actually hold?

Thanks ...

The box is one I picked up. I am always looking for storage boxes to
put the odd coins into. The ones that don't fit into albums or normal 2X2
or slabs.

I think this box should hold 12 boxed GSA's. Right now I have 6 boxed
and 2 soft packs.

2 Soft packs are 1878 CC
Boxed
2 - 1882 CC
1 - 1883 CC
2 - 1884 CC
1 - 1885 CC

I noticed your 1882 CC GSA came with 2 pieces of paper. One(the bigger one) is a COA, what is the other piece and are all GSA dollars supposed to have both?

I only ask because my 1883 CC GSA came with a COA only.

Thanks...Mont.

BTW very nice collection

If you have the GSA Uncirculated Carson city Morgan, like these

Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016

These only came with one piece of paper/COA like these.

Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016
Notice the upper right of the paper, it has a number in blue.
For these GSA's, that number should start with the year of the coin.

For the GSA coin I posted at the start of this thread.

(Notice it does not say Uncirculated on the slab/holder
Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016

This category comes with the two papers.
(There is no blue number on these)

For the GSA soft packs (blue envelopes)

Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016

Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016

They came with one paper/note.

Wow thanks for the info. I will remember to look at 1st 2 numbers now when I look to buy another one.

So it is still uncirculated, just the person separating them didn't like the way it looked. A little "pre-grading" on their part so to speak.

didn't know the soft packs were circulated either. Thanks for that as well.

That is pretty much correct.

The two that I have graded, are one from each category
"GSA Uncirculated" and "GSA silver dollar"

Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016

Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016

If you look behind the first coin you can see the COA with
blue numbers. For this one that is the wrong paper.
I need to remember to find a correct one and replace it.
It was like that when I bought it. I am not sure if someone
was trying to fool a potential ... or just didn't know.

For the soft packs, I have seen many of them graded in
MS grade holders.

I have been told they really did not like any toning.
So they just culled them out.

I had three of these 1878 CC's. Gave one to my daughter and
son-in-law. Of the two I have left I am sure they are both
lower grade MS. One is a VAM 11.

-------------------------

Here is a list of the GSA holdings.

Toned-Morgans-With-My-Silver-This-Week---May-6th-2016

Total GSA holdings of Carson City dollars - 2,909,715.
(There were also non Carson city dollars sold in the
same sales.

Also interesting, only one each 1889 CC, 1892 CC and 1893 CC

I find it interesting that just over 84% of all 1884 CC
minted Morgan's were in the GSA holdings.

But .. where I was going with this .. can you imagine the
group that would have taken on the task of sorting 2.9 million
Carson City dollars.

It might have been a easy way out to pull all the toned ones out. There were some that were listed as unsalable

Hmm I think mine might be wrong as well. Mine doesn't show the word "Uncirculated" on it. I Figured NGC covered it up with their sticker. But I see on yours they didn't. Makes me wonder.

I have an '83CC with the wrong papers, (opposite of yours) I'd do a trade but someone glued the larger one to the lid and I think it'd rip if I tried getting it off.

I have never understood why some people do things like that,
gluing the paper to the lid.

Thanks for the offer, but for these I try to get them in good
shape.

A couple of mine had boxes in poor shape. I would start
watching ebay and buy better boxes ...

need to do that for my 1883 CC papers, might have to buy
them with a box.
