There have been over 5000 Graded by PCGS alone so far and over 95% are graded at 70.
So not that big a deal to find one of these in a 70 grade at all.

Certainly 100 years of technology improvements have made coins sharper looking and easier to manufacture.
Oh thats right, 100 years ago there was still work ethic in this country.
I agree the build up led to a huge let down.
Not to mention the whole nipple thing, they show worse than that on network tv now.

I can't understand why people take them out of the cases their in to send in for a grade and then in a slab. The Mint spent a lot on the cardboard box, another box, then a hard case, then a plastic holder. I thought most of the money for this coin was for all that.  I'm sort of sorry I purchased one. Could have used the money to buy one of those 1915 Mercury dimes I saw advertised.  |

Fox, 95% are grading 70. It's almost laughable approaching ridiculous. I can't wait to see what the market thinks of these this time next year  On the other hand, Dan Carr's overstrikes almost always double in price once they're sold out and his mintages are usually sub 200  |

Carl, I suggest buying the 1915 merc asap. They can be there one day and gone the next then you'll typically have to pay 30%-100%+ over issue price

Probably in the minority here but I have no desire to pay a premium for what is basically a counterfeit coin. I know the issue does not exist so not really a counterfeit by definition but still not an issue from the Mint. If they sold for a slight premium over bullion then maybe but they don't. Flame away  |

 i totally agree. I collect coins for the beauty and history of the coin. I am not a flipper, have absolutely zero idea what my collection is worth, nor do I care. If it not produced by the mint or without some sort of legal tender status, to me it is not a coin. It is a "round" and while it may be collectible to some, if it sells at a premium over bullion, I have no interest in it. I collect Peace dollars, I love the look, the history, imagining what was going on at the time it was minted, who was the very first person to possess it and it's journey there after, all the way into my care. I have absolutely NO interest in spending several hundred dollars on DC's counterfeit Peace dollar. |

I totally disagree but respect others rights to believe as they wish. To me dan carr is the numismatic equivalent to Banksy. A fringe artist of the highest caliber in his respective field. A Picasso, a Rembrandt, a DaVinci are all great but so is a Banksy, a Shephard Fairey, an Alec Monopoly etc. Get the comparison? People get so hung up on the coins themselves and not the artistry imo

I have 12 sets of Mercury dimes and the #1 set is almost all FSB's. I have all the Mercury dime proofs too. The one shown on his web site appears to have all FSB's and hopefully this is what I'd get. The Gold one the US Mint is selling is far from any 70 grading since not even FSB. The Obverse too is weak. People like me are paying hundreds of dollars for that coin and mostly due to being Gold, not a great looking coin. IF Dan Carrs are as he shows on his web site, would be at least fun to have and show people. I wonder how many dealers at a coin show would even know what's wrong with one. |
