Very nice VAM find! I would say MS63 would be about right. Since only the obverse shows the PL field I'm not sure it would make full PL.

Great find! I'd suggest a trip to PCGS for it. Top POP currently is MS-65. That one looks to have an outside chance of making it. PG

Update; Coin is off to ANACS. Should be back 3-4 weeks since I sent a few others in. I showed the coin to a few fellow collectors, they thought it would grade MS63, obverse PL. we shall see.... I will post pics when it comes back.

Cool. Keep us updated. I'm pulling for you! I'm at 63 obv pl as well I just hope thats cabinet friction and it doesn't get a 58. That would be tragic but still an awesome coin either way RK!

Wow, that's great! Now, I would see if it will cross at the same grade or better at PCGS. I'm happy for you!

Here's the most recent one in PCGS 64 that sold in January at heritage for $470. Seems like the broken bird has been slowly declining in price for the last few years from researching sold listings. Wonder why. Must be the drag that most all vams have been facing in recent years. http://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-doll...bnail-071515

Yeah most VAMs have come down quite a bit in "value" with the exception of the extreme rarities or extremely fun varieties that are tough to find.
Congrats on finding a "Broken Bird" and getting it into a problem-free holder!
I've had a few coins come back from ANACS as "OBV DMPL" so if the OBV really is PL I wonder why it is not on the holder. I guess they either only do that with one-sided DMPLs (no PLs), or they just did not see what they needed to see for the PL designation. Doesn't matter really, a 54B in 64 holder is already a fantastic find ;)

Grats on the 54B, that's a tough coin to pull; there are a few of them out there NAOH if you look very hard and long enough. That die crack is amazing; I never saw the eagle's breast part until you showed it in the pictures here.

Quote: ...researching sold listings. What are the most reliable and widely used databases for VAMs sold listings for both wholesale and retail figures? I prefer to have at least a couple of these to bounce off of each other to avoid predilection tendencies leading to disproportionate listing prices...
