Cascade, the worst gift anyone can give my wife is money and tell her to spend it on herself. I have seen her carry such gift money for more than 3 months before spending it and then doing so very reluctantly. My wife will shop until the cows come home and NEVER buy anything, $20 cash can last her for more than half a year. She thinks I should be the same way and cannot understand why I buy anything.

Nearly 10 years in, I'm still learning "marital rules"....one thing I know, they aren't always fair, equal, or logical ! --

I have been on a bit of a "coin diet" this year as well. Self imposed but not spending much at all. Congrats on your new additions! There are several spouses out there that might wish their spouse was more like yours

Wonder why none of the women collectors haven't jumped in on this.

Well, .... I'm a married woman .... what do you want to know? I'm a firm believer in having a spending plan which includes some spending money that each partner gets use as they please.

One of us run the investment portfolio with twenty times the managed assets, the other runs the cash flow with twenty times the transactions and a higher month to month high-to-low. The master spreadsheet manages both our spending.

Who regulates the wives spending habits? Cascade, I'm extremely fortunate in that my wife is not a spender. I'm the spender of the family. I have to pull teeth to get her to buy herself something so for me it's not an issue.

Married guys know that the wife is in charge. Do what she says and life will be good.
Divorced guys have challenged that rule and paid for it dearly.

We live in peace at home I collect coins and he collects movies ( DVDs and laser discs ) I think helps understanding the hobby passion thing when your partner has a hobby as well , and we are good in budgeting for it , a house with an economist and a bookkeeping results in excell sheets everywhere lol

I learned a little trick--go find some nice jewelry, on clearance if possible, and give it to the wife for no reason at all....this makes happy wife, and also allows for some slack when wanting to buy coins..think of it as an investment. Also, I tell my wife she's pretty alot, that way when she gets mad at me I can tell her "Remember how I said you are pretty? I'm cashing that one in!"
