Definitely looks like an S16, dot on N. It was supposedly deliberately put on the die to catch an employee suspected of stealing coins from the mint. That is a neat and very desirable variety. Nice pick up especially if you cherrypicked it.

That's a neat story about the dot on the "N."

As for coin, AU-55 sharpness, but the color does not look natural, and fields may have been smoothed.

WTG Beagle ! It is an S16 ! I jumped on it like a rooster on a June bug... ...man, I bet I've checked thousands of 1875's before I came across this. The absolute hardest to find variety I've encountered so far. Can't wait to get it in hand and see what the color actually is.

Even though you posted in the grading forum, from looking at your past posts, I suspected that you were looking for more. Otherwise I probably would have missed it. I'm very suspicious when I look at your posts, but thanks for making it more challenging.

You know me too well, my friend. The seller had it listed for mere minutes before I checked it over thoroughly for the pick up points. I was shocked that I finally came across one.

Sweet pickup! Obverse does look cleaned and retoned, but I'd take that for sure. One of the few major varieties I haven't found yet - yep I know the feeling of looking at thousands, but this is why we do it

Thanks Mike, I was hoping you'd weigh in as you know the struggle of going through thousands of listings looking for that certain coin. I'm sure a lot of us here do that though. Thanks everyone, I will post pics as soon as it gets here. Probably Wednesday as I'll be gone a few days.

AU55 not sure if it would grade straight though as it does have the look of an old cleaning but has come back pretty good.

Not much diamond and mediocre separation on the ribbon at curl. AU53. No opinion on originality of surfaces / obverse.
