I'm looking at the coin as a whole and trying to see it as the actual size and if the scratches are apparent at first glance and are fairly sizable. The coin in question people were looking at and thinking it wasn't a 64, that coin if you compare is worlds above this coin. These fields have tons of little scratches and what looks like a few decent sized ones, the head also has significantly more scratches. I'm pretty solid on the 62 the only reason I said maybe 63 is because the coin is magnified in the picture and maybe alot of scratches aren't as apparent in hand which is more then possible due to the magnification. I'd say 64 is definitely out of the question. Who knows though I could be wrong I'm no expert.

Quote: There was a recent post about a 1938 MS64 The 1938 coin was a dollar. MS dollars and 50cents are not graded the same Dollars are much larger and twice as heavy as 50cents, they were thus subject to much more marring during bagging and handling. TPGs are much more forgiving of "bagginess" on dollar coins. Your coin would not make 64.

I see wear on the eyebrow , cheekbone , jawbone , and neck . Also slight wear on the highest hairlines . Combined with nicks and scratches ? 64 I think is out. imho

Actually not my coin, it's listed on ebay but I'm trying to learn about the fine art of grading...not something I would find easy..I'd be too indecisive and would probably take all day...

Solid MS62 Maybe 63 on a good day. The obverse is heavily bag marked and is the first thing that I noticed about the coin. The lustre looks good and the reverse would have a good chance at MS64 but the obverse lets this one down. Still a very nice coin and better than the 1943 half that I have in my collection

If you're going to post a coin you don't own for feedback, at least do the seller a favor and post a link to it ;) It is one of my current auctions. Solid MS-63 in my opinion. Blowing it up to larger than normal size over emphasizes the marks on it. www.ebay.ca/itm/1943-Canada-.../112039714351

I didn't know we were allowed to post links. I will do so in the future, sorry, no offense. Just trying to figure out the different criteria for grading that is all. Based on coins I have had graded though by ICCS, the more the pasty luster, the higher the grade, so it's very possible a 63. I don't know enough to be sure, just my opinion based on what I've sent out and what they came back.

I took a look and I don't think the HP is doubled. But I am not that familiar with DHP on non-dollars.

FYIs, here is a link to an ICCS MS-62 1943 50 cent I sold recently. Notice the incomplete strike on the reverse at the top left of the coat of arms. The OP coin is fully struck, better lustre, slightly less marks. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1943-Canada-...61546387838?
