MS-62 would not get them there. MS-63 bid is $1,400. Most AU-58's sell just shy of MS-60 bid. A nice FH AU-58 will sell for MS-63 money. This coin is selling like it is an MS-64 already.

The seller must be pretty happy; someone is apparently willing to spend at least double the coin's fair market value.

Yeah, I know how you feel, but at least you know what coin not to buy.

Buy the coin, not the slab. It has a nice, strong strike, tons of luster, nice toning, and not a lot of hits. Probably would CAC at this grade level.
That being said, $1,700 is a little excessive.

This is not an MS-64 raw. I can see the wear even in the photos. Its just a nice, non-FH, nicely toned AU-58. I could see it running up to $900 - $1000 in an extreme case of collector fever, but this is just insane.

As I recall, there was a recent thread here about a first-time Heritage buyer who did not realize that the commission, sales tax and shipping were extra! Felt sorry for him/her for sure.
But even that kind of oversight doesn't explain this, which is just a complete head-scratcher.
Speaking generally, I have always done well selling better material through Heritage.

Auctions are a crazy thing. It is very easy to lose sight of your objective. Whether it's a coin or Elvis memorabilia It becomes a competition with "the other guy". Robert Shipee's book describes it simply, "I just left my arm up too long".

That seems to be a really wild price for a 1919-D LSQ in AU-58. Maybe the recent rise in silver and gold has given the coin market a shot of Meth?

I'm at work and cannot see the link but if it's in a PCGS holder, it's probably someone doing an Everyman SLQ Registry set, 1919-D in AU58 would certainly be a key for that set, especially if nice AU58's don't come on the market very often compared to higher or lower grade coins.
