Many times we keep looking for a doubled die, when they are not there. When you do find one, you realize how hard you would looking for something that wasn't there. When the read deal shows up under your glass, that fact hits you. They leap out at you when you do find them. All things fall into place about what you have learned here. Congratulations on your find. So those who have not found one look at this one and think: "This looks like machine damage on the coin?" That point hit me also when I bought my example. But when you compare this to a normal coin, the truth comes out. The devices are enlarged compared with a normal coin. Thus to me the need for side by sides became apparent: The 1982 large date copper cents always looked enlarged, until you see images of this doubled die. Then you realize that they all looked like that, but the devices on the DDO are actually larger. This die was probably one of my turning points in understanding varieties even more. The terms "enlarged devices", "Side by sides" and realizing that some years devices were different sized than others came into play. This die was a big event to me. It helped form my thinking. Thus I felt the need to help others to see what I learned at this time. Thanks for the memories.

Thank You All, any finds and encouragement in the forum re-energizes me. All I want to do now is get my coffee and settle under the lamp with a box or two.

Sometimes the damaged punch helps us think there is something going on. Coppercoins lists 10 RPMs. 8 are split serifs and the other two are north and south RPMs. None are on the inside of the mint mark. Mint mark punch damage is drawing us in and keeping us from looking at the split serifs.

Amateurcoinlover, to CCF. You need to start your own thread. If your coin is in a holder, remove it and take pics. We need better photos, front and back. John1
