As noted we would need photos. FG didn't appear on the Lincoln Cent until 1959. I'm guessing an anomaly or possibly counterstamped. But pictures will remove guessing. Have fun in the forums.

Here is an image of my 1956 coin with inititals FG to the right of d mint. It is very faint and in the photo a bit harder to see.

I am not sure what you are seeing but that coin cannot have the designer initials FG because Frank Gasparro designed the Memorial reverse that did not debut until 1959. 1909-1958 cents were designed by Victor David Brenner, his initials are found at the truncation of the bust on the shoulder. Brenner's bust design was retained for Memorial cents and it is still in use on the current Shield cents.
Rest in Peace

The VDB is incuse on the coin (raised on the die) and when the die gets polished several times, then the VDB is polished off the die. Gone for the rest of that dies life. So you may have one from a die that this happened to.

I am trying to get a picture of this coin that is better to see
And I'm still trying to figure out how to use this forum.
And make my pictures small enough so they can be viewed on
here. I took a brighter picture hopefully this can be seen better.

Xena,
Your doing fine with our great site. Have you used the image optimizer? It will make the pics fit on the site automatically. Can you describe exactly where you are seeing the FG please?

The tail of the '9' looks real weak. Almost looks like it was polished away as it is getting thinner? The bottom half of the '1' Is also thinned a bit.
