I have no personal experience in carrying a pocket piece .. will add that you have selected an outstanding example.
Looking forward to your update photos as time passes.

Congrats One50...it's a very affordable coin to get that I recommend to anyone who asks me about what 19th century coin to start off their collection.

Very nice! I'm not really into older coins but I really like this one. Looks to be in really nice condition and the fact that it's the mints first commemorative is even better.
Just to have better mental image what size does this coin closely resemble?

Quote: Just to have better mental image what size does this coin closely resemble? It is a half dollar. Same size as a traditional half dollar (except the larger size Bust halves)

Here is my 3 week update. It's gone. I think my life is a little to active for a pocket piece right now. I went camping in the Adirondacks this week with the family. I had it all week. I had it when we packed up and left for home. I double checked at the first rest stop. My mind is fuzzy when we arrived home as to what may have happened. I checked all my pants today, the dryer, the washer and the hamper. Checked the car twice. Used my metal detector to retrace my steps in the yard. So if anyone finds this coin between Utica NY and Cleveland OH, let me know. If I find it in the future, I will post it's resurrection photo. Thanks

Ouch. I hope it turns up. Did you look between the couch cushions?

Sorry to hear of your loss. I misplaced my MNS medal back when it was the only coin in my pocket and started to carry my Ellis Island in it's place. When I finally found my medal I switched back. When I won my Silver Eagle on a wager with a friend on a non coin forum I decided to carry it with my medal and decided to throw the lightly circulated (2 months) Ellis Island in with the bunch. Then like tattoos it just got out of control with 4 dollar sized coins, 2 quarter sized coins, and 2 dimes. Get another pocket piece and your Columbus will show up again in a month or 2

Sorry to hear that your coin is misplaced. Don't give up on it! You may still come across it.
Have you checked your camping gear? Maybe it slipped out of your pocket while you were unpacking the gear and it fell into a piece of equipment.
Good luck!

OH my friends, it's like my lost child has come home. My wife found it while I was at work. In the dryer after cleaning some camping gear. It had a good wash and dry, but no additional scratches. Much more shine then it had previously. I knew if I posted this post it would show up..and if I hadn't posted this post...it would be still out in limbo. Maybe I should drill a hole in it and wear it as a necklace.

Glad you found it! I would not hole it, but this is just my opinion.

You can try this Peace dollar Morgan dollar Quarter dollar Mercury dimeeach has their own leather sheath and then I put it in a leather pouch which I hook onto my belt, so of you do it with your coin it will be more difficult to lose it again.

Sorry to hear about your pocket-piece. What a horrible gut-wrenching sense of loss.
My first PP was a 1941 quarter, but after a couple of weeks I replaced it with a 1986 Statue of Liberty $1 proof (impaired). There were too many times where I almost spent the 1941, that's why I went to the silver $. You cannot mistake it for anything else.
I still get comments from store clerks when I pull out all my change and they see this huge silver coin among the other coins.
I hope you find your Columbus soon.
