@coinfrog there is a 14 day return policy, I won it for $10 USD, i'd accept it than do a return but the cost of sending an item back to Russia scares me as I don't know what it would cost and if the seller is shady he may as well say he never got it back.

Since it was a low cost item, I'd just either take a loss or get a neg for non-payment. Like you said, he could say he never got it back. I don't know if the seller pays for return shipping or not but if you have to pay it then it just wouldn't be worth sending back. I don't like going the neg route but if you are confident in your assessment of it's authenticity then that will save you your money. You can always recover from a neg.

This might be a bad iea but maybe you could keep it, through it in the trash, and give the seller the worst rating ever maybe?

thanks all, I'm thinking i'll just take the loss. as a YN it will take a bit of a chunk out of money I've been trying to save but it's fine...he'll definitely be getting a terrible rating though..for anyone who wants to know the seller, their name is glebzhemchug

So you contacted the seller and ask them to cancel the sale and you at this point haven't paid for it.
My thoughts is if it is an honest seller they would open a case against you for not paying but if they are indeed shady they will just let it go.
I say do not do anything at this point. The ball is in their court so to speak. See if they respond back to you.

Not sure ... but there might be a way to cancel your bid. You may have to contact ebay. Just tell them the same concerns you posted here. --------- Just read Debrajc post .. that might work too Edited by GR58

yes, I contacted the seller twice, one the morning I saw I won it and once this evening...i explained I wish to retract my bid because I am questioning the authenticity of the item...i have not paid for it. it looks like no case has been open or anything. I'm going to do as you suggest I think. thanks. I welcome all opinions and help as well as criticism of myself and my lack of research before my bid..i should really stick to coins  Feel free to call me Will.

You cannot receive a negative as a buyer, and 'non paying bidder' strikes take multiple instances to effect your account status... You should be able to just send a request to cancel order though

I would not support his scam by paying. The autograph was listed as authentic, and he's clearly selling fake autographs. Hopefully he will just cancel to avoid getting negative feedback from you. The worse that can happen is you get a nonpayment mark against you, but you can probably appeal that with ebay since the item is not as described. |

I sell on ebay. As a seller, I would MUCH rather have someone who won an auction decide to change their mind before they pay and ask me to cancel the sale. Sure, I will have to do a second chance offer to someone else or repost the item. But that is still much better than having them send the thing back later and I have to do a refund. That is a bigger pain for me as a seller. I still have to repost it, but now it is weeks later and I have this open ended thing going on. |

This is why I don't purchase items from a foreign seller. I don't know the laws that govern the shipment of items and more. I'd rather just keep my life simple.

I've been on ebay for 19 years now, and have also regretted placing winning bids on about a dozen lots.. I have also honored every bid I placed as It is considered a binding bid, and unless it was a high priced item that can easily be confirmed fraudulent, would never back out of paying for a mistake I made.. |
