What were the values of the coins you were looking at? I agree some of this might be related to covering Amazon's fees in addition to the retail value of the coin. For lower value items, this could combine for a huge % increase in the price of the listed coin.

Amazon is priced high on coins. So you are not being cheap - however it appears your choice was the better of the two. As the saying goes - happy wife happy life.

I've completely given up at even looking at coins of any kind on Amazon. The prices by everyone who lists there is ridiculously high. I don't know why that may be, and to be blunt, I don't care. Charging two times what the same coin lists for on ebay at a high buy-it-now price already is just nuts.

No thank you Amazon.

Maybe buy things on Amazon with the gift card that you would need anyway, like laundry soap and garbage bags, and save what you spent for use on coins wherever you wanted.

But then the wife...

the thing is, it is not Amazon selling the coins, you are actually seeing these on what is called Amazon marketplace.

I was getting targeted ads for Amazon's coin store on Facebook maybe a year ago.

Prices were laughably high.

I think I would have made the same choice.

Even if it is free money ... no need to overpay for coins.

Too pricey. Always. Try selling the card to a freind for like 95 or something. That way you can use the money for fairly priced coins

two nights in a hotel is worth way more than a 100 dollar gift card.

I've stayed in some hotels near military bases and while travelling for business that would greatly challenge this assertion...

There is only 2 ways to get my coins for a decent price that I know of . A coin show and BIDDING on E-bay .Forget Amazon and Buy It Now on E-bay . Local coin shops are usually very high unless your in good with the owner .

Although they're competitors, I've heard there's a way to transfer Amazon cards to paypal, letting you shop the bay.
You might goog that.

Don't forget that you still have to pay income taxes on that $100.
