Nice coins muddler! A couple of questions... >> do you prefer proof to unc in the commemorative half eagles? if so why? I ask because I have a number of these in UNC and I purposely bought the UNC's 'cause they are of lower mintage. Just curious what motivates collectors to buy the proof vs. the unc. >> looks like the NPS half eagle is TPG'd. Is it? Can you help me understand your motivation for buying a slabbed modern coin like that vs. directly from the mint? You feel it is worth the premium? >> finally, how do you store these? I'm struggling with deciding how to store the several commemorative half eagles I own...they are all in their original mint capsules except one. I'd put them in an album if I could, but I'm not sure I like the Lighthouse brand coin capsule album, and I really don't want to take them out of their capsules. I just picked up the UNC NPS half eagle myself, and two of the NPS half dollars (UNCs as well). I liked the half NPS design way better than the silver dollar...wish they had minted the 50c piece in silver! Thanks.

If I had a choice I would generally get the uncirculated coins but I preferred the look of the proof Mark Twain. The NPS coin was purchased off E bay at a lower price than issue from the mint so I went for it. As for storage I'm about 50/50 on mint packaging and slabs. I have yet to find a display mode I like to put them all in.

If I thought the commemorative Walker was going to drop in price I would buy more of them. I wonder if a couple of years from now they will be selling for $400 each if price of gold continues to fall? Same for all the other gold 2016 commemoratives. If gold ends up selling for $800 an ounce I can't see anyone wanting to pay $800 for a half ounce gold Walker?

That's a beautiful selection. I think they did a great job in 2016 in putting out some coins of real significance and beauty.
It's nice to see your "stack".

The details on the 2 commems is just great. And this is on a nickel sized coin. To bad the parks quarters couldn't have the same people designing them.

That Mark Twain coin is nice. It has aspects of real art like some of the early 20th century gold coins from Saint-Gaudens.

I had gone astray from my early commemorative set, I'll need to pony up and finish it with a Hawaii half this year.

I had purchased the US Marshals $5 before your post because I just liked it. It was my first gold $5 commem. After your post I started looking at these a little more and then I got the $5 Civil War one. I think that I may have gotten the gold bug on these if the price is right. :)

I also got the 1995 civil war one in proof last year. All three of those commemorative coins are pleasing.

The two that I got were in PCGS holders so I figured that was a plus. Actually cost less than those that weren't
