I think that at a minimum you could add Livia, Domitia, and Sabina to your list; they aren't unreasonable compared to Magnia Urbica and Mariniana, both of whom will run $100+ for a "nice" example.
I would have to look it up, but I think one or more of Elagabalus' wives are pretty darn hard to find. Maybe Annia Faustina?

Updated to add Sabina, which is a good place to start. Livia is too far of a jump back, and Domitia is too difficult.
I think the idea Irbguy has is great, wouldn't know how to set that up myself, but happy to contribute when I can. Thanks for all the comments/ideas thus far!

If you were to include provincial coins I think Livia and some of the other Julio-Claudian and Flavian women would be achievable. Actually thinking about it Livia was depicted on the reverse of some of Tiberius's coinage. Here's a picture of a recent bargain pickup of mine. A sestertius minted by Domitian in honor of his niece Julia Titi.

Just make sure, that for each coin that you add to your collection, that the lady has a ' a' at the end of her name ! One thing that you will observe is what hairstyle happens to be in fashion, at the time a particular coin was struck. Also interesting to note what subject material is covered on the reverse designs, in association with the ladies.

Quote: wouldn't know how to set that up myself, but happy to contribute when I can. Actually, in my imagination you would kinda be the ringleader, EFLargeCents. You would start a thread by posting a coin of one of the women on the list, the way you usually do. Once you do that, the thread is set for that particular woman, so we copy and paste a link to the thread in the spot by her name. This illustrates the idea with reference to an old thread on Sabina: Sabina - Wife of Hadrian .......................... http://goccf.com/t/131669&SearchTerms=sabinaFaustina I - Wife of Antoninus Pius Faustina II - Wife of Marcus Aurelius Lucilla - Wife of Lucius Verus Crispina - Wife of Commodus . . etc, etc . Fausta - Wife of Constantinus I Aelia Flaccilla - Wife of Theodosius I In each thread the rest of us will add images and comment on that same person from our collections. EFLC, you can pick any figure you choose in any order to start a thread and we will add its link to the index thread in the sticky section with a whole new entry. Ron will need to help us by deleting the old version of the index when it has been updated with a new entry - which is nothing more than deleting an older post within a thread. The index thread should ONLY contain the index and perhaps one explanatory post. Never more than two posts in the sticky thread. Eventually, we will have a link for each name on the list and can quickly access any one of those threads without any hassle. Only one of us need handle updating the index list, and Ron can regulate that. With the index our conversation can stand for a long time. Since the threads don't disappear, interested viewers can read or add new images and info any time.

Neat idea, although I think that I will only be contributing on one or two of the threads.

Cool! I've been collecting the Women of Rome too because I find their likenesses more pleasing than the thuggish-looking (Caracalla) emperors.
I have the first half of your list except for Annia Faustina - 3rd Wife of Elagabalus. She's impossible for Rome issued denarii, and pricy if you go provincial so I'd remove her.
Also to make your task even more challenging, collect their deification issues!

Best wishes with the project, EFLargeCents. Fyi, some of these ladies were highlighted in Celator articles. If interested, links to the relevant issues provided below. Irbguy, I like the idea you have. I would be happy to create threads for each as I get the coins, but it may be awhile before every one has an entry!

So that it does not become a burden or imposition on you, EFLC, I think you should have the liberty to hand off the start slot for any of them as you see fit to anyone on the list you might wish whenever you choose as often as you feel the need. The sub can fill us in by saying something like, "At the request of EFLargeCents here is the starting post for...."

Irbguy, great idea, I would definitely not mind it if a member said, "hey, I have a really great one of this, can I start the thread?" That would be just fine with me. In the end, this would look pretty cool, as all the information for each would be readily accessible via the link, with the index on top in the first post. Cool idea.

I don't really collect Roman coins that much lately, but it's a nice set - might actually consider it myself! Some of those would be pretty hard to find though, especially given my budget... I think I currently have two - Faustina II (really nice but worn as heck) and Otacilia Severa (a falling-apart piece of an overcleaned silver, but not actually that much actual wear). Paid $3 for the former, $8 for the latter. Quote: Eudoxia does also show up from time to time; I think I found two of her in uncleaned lots; albeit horrid condition with very little detail. Still ought to be cheaper than half the women on your list. I saw one of her coins in a bargain bin once, but at the time I didn't recognize it for what it was, and when I (accidentally) found out and went back it was already bought by a more experienced buyer. Never saw any of her coins again (at least, not for anything remotely near what I could afford).

I didn't mention Eudoxia since I didn't know how far forward you were willing to go but since others already have... I may as well post my favorite of hers that's currently being offered for sale. There are several similar-grade portraits available, so if this is good enough for you, you may consider adding her to your list as well.

The cheapest example of Eudoxia on that site is $11, but on the photo I can barely see anything there. This is hardly the sort of coin I would actually want in my collection, even if a rarity. The second cheapest is $18, and a relatively nice coin, but that's way at the upper edge of my budget; I definitely can't afford any of the others (which are much nicer but start at $30+).
For the record, the OP had already stated that he's not very interested in the really late stuff because what he wants is the portraits and by then they were really awful quality. And I think Eudoxia is the only semi-affordable one from that period anyway. I wouldn't say this was definitely the case for Eudoxia, but her portraits certainly were not as beautiful as the ones from earlier.
