Quote: if you click on the little button at the top that looks like three people, you be brought to a listing of all members, I know a few members that aren't listed - how often do they update that list? (PS. Oh, took some searching but found them) Quote: One hit wonders

It should perhaps be pointed out that the membership numbers have been "padded" by lurkers and spammers. By my reckoning, about half of the 46,231 total (quoted by John1 above) falls into one of those two categories.
"Lurker": in this context, someone who joins the forum but never makes even a single post.
"Spammer": in this context, someone who joins the forum purely to promote themselves or their website, whether numismatic or otherwise. We come down pretty hard on spammers, we ban-lock but but don't delete their accounts (mainly to prevent them from re-using the same spammer e-mail).
It should also be pointed out that the forum is quite old, by internet standards: it's been around since 2005; that's over ten years. Many of that first generation of forum members no longer post; they've moved on, lost interest either in coins or the Internet, or perhaps even passed away. There are also, of course, members who have broken one too many forum rules and been banned from the forum. To give some statistics, out of our top 150 members:
Still active: 97 No longer posting: 44 Banned: 4 Known to have passed away: 5

Quote: "Spammer": in this context, someone who joins the forum purely to promote themselves or their website how can we differentiate between the "spammers" and the legitimate members?

Sap, one of my goals is to get off of page 4 of the post ranking list and onto page 3 and in the top 150 category!

This is somewhat off-topic but I just noticed that are 218,396 people on this site right now. This is the best online reference site for coins!

Quote: how can we differentiate between the "spammers" and the legitimate members? Spammers will be locked; I believe this should still show up for you as "Locked" in the "Title" column of the member list. By far the majority of low-post-count locked members are spammers.
