I think I have heard/read that the Mint has Ike's in "limited availability." You would have to find a bank that would request them and wouldn't mind possibly doing some 'leg work' to hunt them down though. I haven't tried to get any, but if you find some, I'll buy a few rolls.

I <heart> Eisenhower dollars!

If you cannot find them at the banks, try the coin shows. I see them in "junk bins" for just above face value and many are in XF-AU conditions. They show no love for the Ike. Their loss, your gain!

I have come across them at the banks while checking for halves. They are still there.

Yeah, I had one of my tellers keep an eye out for them b/c she said people would bring them in to exchange. The other day I got a call from her and in a couple of hours received a nice 74 ike, almost BU, just for face value!

You can specially order Ikes from the bank if you find the right teller. Most tellers aren't aware that they can request these coins by calling their "Money Center." I have had much luck over the years asking specifically for these coins. For best results go to a larger bank: one that has its own money center and doesn't rely strictly on the Fed for its cash supply. The commercial teller, who orders the branch weekly shipment, can make a call to the money center to request Ikes. It requires minimal legwork and they are usually in stock in limited quantity though. I'm sure the various Federal Reserve banks have them in bags of $1000, but most banks don't want to place special orders because it will cost them extra. Good luck and let us know how you make out!

As I said before, they surface occasionally when I am looking for halves. What should I be looking for, if I started collecting them? Any information is appreciated.

I must be one of the lucky ones. My bank in Western PA will give me all I want. When I ask for rolls they just smile and ask how many. It seems like the individual in charge of their main vault wants them gone! They usually have the rolls for me on Mondays and Thursdays. Of course I take the unwanted ones back to my wife's bank!

I got one Ike (1971d) today. I know of another bank in my town that has 30 of them; I've been putting off getting them, but I might get them tomorrow. Anybody out there know what the major varieties and errors are in this series? I'd love to know so I will know what to look for. Thanks!

Aloha here is what I think. The Ike's will increase in the next year or so. They already went up some in the past year. Check your old price guides and see for your self. As the price of silver and gas goes up not many people have extra money to collect silver coins anymore. The Ike's are the last of the big dollar coins and with the new President dollars you will see more interest in this set. I think the coins that will make the biggest move are the 1973 P&D and any of the 40% silver coins. If you can find rolls of the 73 P&D now is time to buy them. What do you people think?
