I would also say AU55/58. Also, why don't you wait couple of days until you reveal it, so more members can participate.

I'm at au53. There is no luster, but also not a lot of wear. There are a lot of scratches and marks especially in the obverse fields. A nice strike and great eye appeal. It would be 55 if it had fewer marks in the fields.

A very pretty, scarce civil war coin that I would love to have in my collection.

I'm gonna take the trend a little lower and say AU-50. Not sure if it is original or not.

I don't think it's cleaned, all the fields look natural as they fade into the devices, but I do reduce my grade opinion from 58 to 53.

If it graded AU50 sounds fair and a 53 would be no surprise. The burn (solder?) marks on both sides of the obverse could have resulted in a no-grade though.

Thank you all for the responses! You've restored my confidence a bit, I had graded this AU53.

1864-Seated-Half-Opinions-You-Vs-PCGS

(sorry about to less than ideal picture, not skilled at taking those yet)

AU50 or AU55 wouldn't have shocked me, but was pretty surprised to get it back XF45 given the minimal wear. Maybe it has something to do with the two "burn" marks on the obverse?

In any case, given everyone's responses and my own opinion, I'll think of it as better than an XF45. Maybe I'll send it to reconsideration someday.
