coins for fun: your coin is a lower grade than the original in this thread, but much more desirable.
However, I digress, and agree with DBM on this "variety. This is not an intentional over punch, this is a serendipitous die chip, nothing more.

coins for fun we've seen that very same coin posted on this forum many years ago.
Only 11 have been certified but far more than that number have been posted or acknowledged on this forum.
One member posted an MS coin but it was a hosted image and disappeared a few years ago,for sure the finest known of this variety.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

DBM - this coin was purchased 18 months ago at a large USA coin show from a US dealer. It was harshly cleaned and is now re toning. It is possible the previous owner has shown it on this forum in the past.

Another great example.."Amigo"..and without the distracting scratches or digs we've seen in the previous examples.. Thanks for sharing it here.. Now if we use the ebay F 12 example as a baseline for asking prices. How much should you list as a starting price for the newest example here..? My bid would be ~ $30,000.00.."if" I wanted another.. 2 coins are better than one..they say.. |

It's in the trends and still gaining steam...IMHO.. ..just like the 49 Hoof which is a die crack and nice big chip, ..or the 46 fill in 6..just another chip.... ..or the Arnprior dollars are very sought after for decades and they are just over polished dies.. ..or the over polished 0 in the 1950 .. Varieties or don't call them "varieties" ..They've been sought after for a long time.. .. and the high grade 51 Arn's get very good money..because they're very tough to find.. There are so many "varieties" that still command a large premium, and when it's different, many of us would love to have an example of it..It's a big part of the collecting fun.. Not to mention all the 47 dots, (supposedly) just die pits. I think it's funny/odd that somebody scratched a box around "25" like they were highlighting the denomination or something. Does ANACS attribute Canadian varieties?

Devlec and coins for fun thanks for posting your pictures and letting us see this very very scarce variety.
As for cv we all know he loves to use rare for just about everything he lists.

There are two different "varieties" of this "variety". One is from a die with a repunched N in CANADA as seen on DEVLEC's and coins for fun' coins. The other is from a die with a prominent crack between the C and A of CANADA. The latter is the scarcer of the two. Here is one of mine.  "Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
