with Nikon, SP60 Quote: areas where the strike wasn't completely full..they stand out much more That and the significantly off-center strike make this one sub-par by a mile. Imagine this coin was presented to a high ranking Russian official at the end of his visit to the mint. (such was the purpose of specimen strikes) On his way back to the embassy he buys a newspaper, receives a nickel in change and notices the shiny new one the newsboy gives up without a thought is so well struck and centered, his gift has been an insult from his ally, fuel to start the Cold War.

i wouldn't say this coin is sub par.. it isn't off center..the obverse die is just slightly misaligned..it is actually quite interesting and unusual on a specimen. and the areas of weakness aren't an issue..they are easily observed on other examples..it is a common occurrence, check PCGS's pop report..their finest example, an SP-67 has an identically 'weak' strike which consists of just a lack of frosting at the very highest points. I'm not sure why either of these occurrences on this obviously very clean, attractive coin would downgrade it to an SP-60 grade

Darned Russians in every convo these days!
I'm still at sp 65.
1937 dollar specimen, rim issues on the matte issue, they still grade 65 and better The alignment does not change my opinion.
Beauty coin!

I'm with Alan, plus the pictures don't do the coin justice I believe. Due to it being in 2 slabs of plastic, it would most likely be a stunner to see in person. I am firm at a sp65 in today's grading world. A real pleasing coin!
